Dr. C. Daniel Cadena (Universidad de los Andes, Bogota) and Dr. Jeff Norris (UWC, Costa Rica & Natural Solutions) are both scheduled to give Plenary talks at the IV Costa Rica Ornithological Congress in San Jose (22-24 July 2014). Daniel’s talk is entitled “Por que es tan alta diversidad de aves en el norte de Sur America? Hipotesis clasicas y nuevas ideas“. Jeff’s talk is “Las aves urbanas de Costa Rica y su papel en la ecologia, la conservacion, y la educacion”. Daniel is Associate Professor and Chair of Biological Sciences at the Universidad de los Andes. He received his PhD in 2006 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and was co-advised by Bette Loiselle and Robert Ricklefs. He is interested in the evolution, systematics and evolutionary ecology of vertebrates, especially Neotropical birds. He is also a marathon runner! Jeff received his PhD in 2011 from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and was co-advised by Bette Loiselle and Godfrey Bourne. Jeff is interested in urban conservation and environmental education. Together with his wife, he founded Natural Solutions, a Costa Rican NGO, dedicated to finding sustainable solutions in human-dominated landscapes. Their NGO believes that education is a key to finding solutions and their activities include ecotourism and environmental education. Jeff is also a professor at UWC, Costa Rica. Great to see them rejoin forces at Costa Rica’s ornithological congress!
